Pinewood Neuro Physio offers a home visiting service in Southport Birkdale, Ainsdale, Formby, Maghull & Crosby.
Having your physiotherapy assessment and treatment in the comfort of your own home offers many advantages over clinic settings; making it convenient for you and allowing us to really get to grips with the difficulties you encounter in day to day life.
Assessment
Following your enquiry, and if you wish to book an assessment, we will send you an electronic self-referral form (if you have computer access) which will ask about your current difficulties, medical history and your goals for physiotherapy input.
We will also need to contact your GP for information about your medical history. This is to ensure that any physiotherapy input is safe and appropriate to your needs.
At your first appointment, we will discuss the information provided on your referral form and complete a physical assessment of your posture, movement, strength, muscle tone, balance and function.

Your goals for physiotherapy input will also be discussed; whether that be to improve independence with day to day tasks, reducing your risk of falling, or getting back to walking the dog, we can discuss how Pinewood Neuro Physio could help towards these goals.
This comprehensive assessment enables us to gain a holistic view of your needs and ensure that any physiotherapy treatment will be safe and appropriate for you.
After your assessment, we will complete a summary letter and write to your GP to highlight any medical action points that may be required.

Treatment
Following your assessment, we will discuss the options for physiotherapy treatment to support you to work towards your goals. We will make recommendations based on best available evidence, and agree a treatment plan together with you, planning the frequency of any follow up sessions.
We will use a combination of hands-on treatment with exercise, according to your needs. We can also use other neuro physio treatment methods such as Neuro Muscular and Functional Electrical Facilitation (NMES and FES), mirror box therapy, constraint induced movement therapy, repetitive task practice and strength training which are all supported in the 2023 NICE guideline Stroke rehabilitation in adults.
To track and measure your progress, we will advise on the use of outcome measures and will review your goals with you regularly. This enables us to identify any changes in your goals and make modifications to your treatment plan if required; ensuring that your priorities are always at the heart of your physiotherapy input.
You will also be provided with advice and/or home exercises to support you in working towards your specific goals.
